How Keyword Research Actually Works
Most keyword research advice was written for e-commerce. Here's why it falls apart for service businesses, and how to ...
Get your accounting firm found by the business owners you want as clients. SEO for accountants in Brisbane and Ipswich, done by one SEO consultant, from start to finish.
Many accounting firm websites list the same services in the same order: tax returns, BAS, bookkeeping, business advice. Nothing on the page tells a business owner why they should choose you, so most of their enquiries are from people needing a cheap tax return.
The business owners you do want see the same page. They search for an accountant, click whichever firm Google shows them first, and if that site could belong to any firm in town, they go straight back to the results.
Every one of those missed calls was a business client who could have stayed with your firm for years. Win them back by showing up when they search and giving them a reason to call once they land on your site.
Win the clients you want more of. Show up when a business owner searches for an accountant in your area, and for the specific services you want to grow, whether that's advisory, SMSF or an industry you already know well.
Turn referrals into first meetings. Give everyone who's been recommended to you a reason to ring. Every page on your accounting firm's website gets written for someone deciding whether to trust you with their finances, and booking a first meeting takes one click. If the site can't do that job, a new one gets built as part of the work.
Keep every claim defensible. Put nothing on your website you'd be uncomfortable explaining to the TPB or your professional body. The copy is written with APES 110 and the TPB Code of Professional Conduct in mind, so it describes your services accurately and leaves other firms out of it.
Know what it's bringing in. Get one report a month that reads like something you'd send a client: new enquiries, where they came from, what changed and what's next. Judge the work on new clients, and hear about a problem before you've had to ask.
Send it through for a straight answer on what's holding you back.
Plenty of firms are in exactly that spot. The point is to change who's enquiring. Get found for the services with the best margins, let your website set expectations on fit and fees, and use the extra choice to replace your lowest-value clients over time.
Specialist agencies know the industry well. What you're buying is a playbook they've already run for other firms, sometimes on the same website template and articles, and often with competing practices on their books. Hire a consultant and you get one senior person working on your firm.
Very little. Expect a kick-off meeting, a short monthly check-in and a quick review of anything that describes your services before it goes live. The work gets scheduled around tax time and your lodgement deadlines, so nothing lands on your desk in your busiest weeks.
Yes. Nothing on the page exaggerates your services or experience, compares you with other firms, or promises a tax outcome. You still sign off on anything that describes your services, because it's your registration on the line.
Expect movement in 2 to 3 months, and new clients you can trace back to it by around month 6. Firms in Ipswich usually see it sooner than firms competing across Brisbane. Treat any promise of page one in 30 days as a warning sign.
Established practices with a few accountants on staff and a clear idea of the clients they'd like more of. Sole practitioners who are flat out with individual returns usually get more from a well-kept Google Business Profile than from a monthly retainer, and I'll tell you that on the first call.
